Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday announced a day-long hunger strike against the Central Government over demand of special category status (SCS) for the state.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief will hold the fast against the Narendra Modi government on April 20, ANI reported.

Naidu, whose party quit the ruling NDA alliance last month alleging failure in fulfilling the promises made in the State Reorganisation Act, has intensified his attacks on the BJP-led government at the centre.

After the two TDP Union ministers had quit the government on March 8, the party had moved a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha against the Modi government. The motion was however, not taken during the Budget session of the Parliament due to disruptions.

On Thrusday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP MPs observed a day-long fast to protest the disruptions.

Hitting out at the Prime Minister, Naidu on Thursday sought to know who Narendra Modi was trying to hoodwink by observing a protest "deeksha" against washout of Parliament's budget session.

"Are there any instances in history where a Prime Minister observed deeksha? Is it not your incompetence?" he asked.

Commenting on the protests against the Prime Minister's visit to Chennai that morning, Naidu said, "We too will do that. We will do more, but I don't think they will dare come here."

"Earlier, everybody used to fear (Modi), now all are emboldened. We have created a situation where all parties are now revolting against the Modi government," the TDP chiefobserved.

While maintaining that according special category status (SCS) to AP was only a matter of "political solution," the TDP Chief said they might launch a legal fight as well to secure the state's rights.
