Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to launch a 'First Information Report (FIR) at complainants' doorstep' system at the commissionerate, police sources announced here today.

Talking to reporters, Vijayawada Commissioner of Police A B Venkateswara Rao said that the initiative would be launched in the commissionerate on October 22, which is also "police martyrs' day". Other initiatives too would be launched as part of an e-governance and good governance drive.

These initiatives would include constitution of a permanent family counselling body to counsel family members involved in cases related to violence against women.

He said that a number of cases related to women's violence were filed and so far, the Vijayawada commissionerate received about 1,200 cases so far during this calendar year, with most of them identified as false after investigations.

He said that the police has begun following Supreme Court directions before taking action against the husband and his family members by thoroughly investigating violence against cases before filing FIRs. He said that most violence against women cases are out of "egoism" rather than money or dowry.

He said that to save the social and family system, the police has decided to constitute a permanent and formal counselling body with a doctor, an advocate, an officer from the women's welfare department as well as a social activist.

Police commissioner also advised the public not to be trapped by cheats either at ATMs or other public places. He said that commissionerate has created awareness among people about such cheating by conducting camps at apartments and also at important public places.

He also warned people against depositing money with unauthorised financial institutions and real estate firms. He cited recent cheating cases by some fake realtors by producing fake documents.
