Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has asked NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar to postpone the Governing Council meeting due to Eid Ul-Fitr.

The fourth meeting of the Niti Aayog's Governing Council is scheduled to take place on June 16 and it will deliberate on the development agenda for 'New India 2022'.

The apex body of Niti Aayog, the Council includes all chief ministers as also the members of the government think tank.

In a letter to Rajiv Kumar, Naidu has requested to postpone the proposed meet and said that his presence in the state headquarters is important due to Eid festival.

"The Government of Andhra Pradesh at the outset welcomes the holding the 4th meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog. But as you are aware, the festival of Eid UI Fitar which is the most important festival for the Muslim community is being celebrated on 16th June 2018 and on 17th June morning the traditional Eid Milap will take place. Since the festival is very important to the Muslim minority community, our presence in the state Headquarters is essential. Hence I request you to kindly postpone the proposed Niti Aayog Governing Council meeting; preferably to forenoon of 18th June 2018 or at least to the afternoon of 17th June 2018."

"We expect a positive consideration of our request," Naidu added.

Niti Aayog has been working on the strategy document or development agenda for 'New India 2022' for a while. Earlier, it had planned to come out with three documents a three-year action agenda, seven-year medium-term strategy paper and a 15-year vision document.

The Aayog, in a presentation last year, had said the foundation for freedom from six problems poverty, dirt, corruption, terrorism, casteism and communalism will be laid by 2022 when India celebrates 75 years of independence.
