Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister N Chinna Rajappa on Thursday said that the state government will provide 25 litres of drinking water for Rs 2 from Gandhi Jayanti day on October 2 under the 'NTR Sujala Sravathi Pathakam' scheme.

After inaugurating a water tank, which is part of the Rs 31-crore drinking water project, Rajappa, who is also the state home minister, said, "Every family in the state's villages and towns will be provided pure drinking water under the scheme from October 2." He added that the AP cabinet had cleared the pilot project.

Rajappa said the government was keen to waive crop loans as had been promised by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the time of his swearing in.

"The government is taking all necessary steps to implement waiver of crop loans to farmers," he said.

The government has also held talks with bankers to request that loans be provided to farmers for the Kharif season, Rajappa added.

"The government is taking steps to waive loans to DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups," Rajappa said, adding that the TDP government would fulfil its poll promises.

To solve the drinking water problem in Pithapuram, a Rs 31-crore project has been prepared and steps would be taken to complete it within nine months, he said.
