For almost five years, Sushant Zala, a professional working in Mumbai was worried about his mother, a widow, who lived alone in Bhuj. However, an episode of Aamir Khan’s reality television show Satyamev Jayate focusing on the neglect faced by the elderly, showed him the way to end the anxiety.

The issue of loneliness among the elderly touched him so much that Sushant, in a daring decision, wanted to get his mother married. Discussions followed and it took some time for the son to bring his mother around to the idea. This Wednesday Sushant was in attendance as his mother Taraben Zala, 47, tied the knot with Dhanji Jadav, 52, in a simple ceremony.

“I had been worrying about my mother for some time. It is only when I saw the Satyamev Jayate episode on elderly that the idea struck me. It occurred to me how lonely my mother would be,” said Zala. He said they discussed the matter at length and it took some time to convince his mother. Even my wife Neha came down to Bhuj to convince my mother, said Zala. He then found out about Natu Patel’s Vina Mulye Amulya Sewa marriage bureau and approached him. Patel had appeared on the show.

“We got her bio-data made just 2 months ago,” said Zala. Incidentally, Jadav’s children also played an important role in getting him married.

Jadav, an officer working with ONGC lives with his son and parents at Kankaria in Maninagar. Jadav lost his wife three years ago and was looking for a soul mate for himself and a mother for his son Dipak, who studies BTech.

He also has two daughters who have been married. “Jadav too received support of his children. I arranged a meeting of both the families at Ahmedabad and then at Bhuj. Finally, both the candidates agreed to begin their second innings in life with each other” said Patel, who arranged their marriage at his home-cum-office in Vasna on Wednesday.

Jadav said he too had discussed the matter several times with his children before tying the knot.
