Over 18 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect their representative from Amaravati, in Vidarbha region of East Maharashtra. It is a Sena bastion which the party has been winning since 1999.

This year's election is a repeat of 2014 with sitting Shiv Sena MP Anandrao Adsul fighting against Yuva Swabhiman Party candidate Navneet Kaur Rana. Rana is a southern star and is wife of independent MLA Ravi Rana. She is the joint candidate of Congress- NCP alliance. There were some uncertainties over Rana's candidature, but having filed nomination on the last day, she is now going full throttle against Adsul accusing him of doing precious little for the constituency.

Congress- NCP which drew a black in Vidarbha in the last election is banking on NCP chief Sharad Pawar to change the fortunes in 2019. Campaigning for Rana in Amravati, Pawar attacked PM Modi and his policies and also replied to the jibes directed at him.

Prakash Ambedkar's outfit VBA's Gunwant Devpare is also in the fray. He was third last time. Adsul won the seat by 1.36 lakh votes in 2014 and by an almost similar margin in 2009. Before that Sena's Anantrao Gudhe won twice from Amravati. Originally a Congress bastion, the party has won the seat last in 1991, when Pratibha Patil, who later went on to become the President was elected from here.  It will be interesting to see if NCP-Congress alliance candidate Rana can dent Sena's fortunes in Vidarbha's cultural capital Amravati.
