Amitabh Pathak is new police commissioner of Ahmedabad

Earlier, he was inspector- general of police (law and order) was also posted as Gandhinagar Range IG for a short time. From Uttar Pradesh, Pathak has done his masters of science.

Amitabh Pathak, an IPS officer of 1977 batch, is the new police commissioner of Ahmedabad. Pathak will replace SK Saikia, also of 1977 batch. Pathak is currently ADGP, state human rights commission.

Earlier, he was inspector- general of police (law and order) was also posted as Gandhinagar Range IG for a short time. From Uttar Pradesh, Pathak has done his masters of science.

Saikia will take Pathak’s post as ADGP, state human rights commission. Saikia has been CP of Ahmedabad for two times.

In October 2007, two months before December 2007 assembly elections, Saikia was brought in as CP in place of J Mohapatra. He remained in the post till early 2008 when OP Mathur was appointed as the commissioner.

Mathur continued in the post for about a year. Then Saikia was again made CP of Ahmedabad in February 2009 and was continuing till now.

Apart from Saikia and Pathak, other officers shifted include K Kumaraswami (from IG of state crime records bureau to police welfare), PP Pande (from intelligence to CID (Crime and Railways), HP Singh (commissioner-communication to IGP, crime records bureau), & Sanjiv Bhatt (civil defence to police training college, Junagadh).
