BJP national president Amit Shah will not contest the upcoming Assembly polls in the state due in December.
CM Vijay Rupani made the revelation in an interview to Zee Hindustan News channel sparking off a buzz in political circles. “He has informed us he will not contest the Assembly polls,” Rupani said.
Shah is an MLA from Naranpura constituency and is a five-time MLA from the state. Though there was speculation Shah would not contest the polls as he is loaded with responsibilities, Rupani’s statement has laid all doubts to rest.
State BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya said, “I was on tour for the whole day and neither did I view the interview nor did I hear the CM’s interaction with the media. I have no idea about what the CM spoke, but Amit Shah and the party high command have the authority to decide on the issue.”
After his interview, the CM could not be approached for comment as he remained busy the entire day in meetings at his official residence in Gandhinagar.
