Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah has asked all seven Morchas to roll up their sleeves for some serious work in the run-up to 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

To start the process, the Kisan Morcha has been directed to prepare a force of 50,000 volunteers within the next four months. A diktat in this regard was given to the office bearers during the September 24 meeting, just a day ahead of the party's extended national executive meet.

The decision to begin with the Kisan Morcha was taken in light of the continuing farmer agitations and distress in the farming sector, which can potentially harm BJP's prospects in 2019.

The Kisan Morcha volunteers will spread awareness about several farmer-centric schemes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) to link 585 regulated agri-markets across the country, and various loan waiver schemes.

Sources said Shah was unhappy that despite the extensive work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on several pro-people schemes for farmers, youth, women, SCs, and STs, not much was visible on the ground because of the lack of drive to implement these schemes.

"He (Shah) specifically told the office bearers, especially the Morcha heads, that they should understand that they have been given this responsibility not as a luxury but to do the work more efficiently. The impact of these schemes should be felt on ground, just like the Ujjwala Yojana," sources said.

Meanwhile, sources told DNA that a draft booklet is being prepared. This booklet will list all that the PM has done for the farmers, including the schemes launched, the funds sanctioned, and various other steps taken by state and Central governments to benefit the sector.

"All 50,000 volunteers will be given extensive training to take this forward by establishing rapport with farmers across the country, help them reap benefits, and seek redressal at the level of Gram Sabhas, BDO, district, and state. In case of lags or glitches, the volunteers would be free to bring them to the notice of the Kisan Morcha top office-bearers, who would take them up personally at the respective levels," the source said.

Besides, an unofficial committee of experts is also being constituted to prepare a report about the Modi government's achievements regarding the farmers. The report is expected to come out in four to five weeks. In all probability, it will be released by noted agricultural expert M S Swaminathan, whose recommendations are often cited by the Opposition as the benchmark, sources said.

After Kisan Morcha, the next in line would be the Mahila Morcha and the Yuva Morcha, which would repeat the same drill of training volunteers and taking the message to the masses. "The idea is to use all the Morchas to spread the awareness about the work done by the Modi government and to ensure the implementation of various schemes through a participative approach," sources said.
