Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah slammed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over his comment on the conflict between India and Pakistan and said that the latter did not see the differences because he had 'Italian' spectacles on.

Shah assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has been strong in dealing with firing from Pakistan and has given maximum priority to the security of the borders, unlike the previous UPA regime.

"Rahul baba recently said there is no difference in the Pakistan border during UPA and NDA regime. Earlier there was exchange of fire in the border between the security forces of India and Pakistan and now also the same thing is being repeated. Where is the difference? He did not see the difference because he seemed to be wearing an Italian spectacle," Shah said, while addressing a public gathering here.

"If they throw bricks, we throw stones in retaliation. We are replying to Pakistan's bullets with shells and so there has been reduction of tension in the border. (Eeth ka jawaab ham pattharo mein dete hain.)," he added.

Shah alleged that the communists had supported the UPA government which was involved in different scams involving more than Rs. 12 lakh crore and said that no opposition party could bring any charge of corruptions against the present NDA government.

He alleged that the Left Front government, which was ruling Tripura since 22 years, had failed to develop the state, particularly the tribal compact areas.

"There were no roads or drinking water supply or uninterrupted power supply, but the government boasts of development in the state. This government, in the real sense, is against development because they want the poor to remain poor and unless there is no poor they would not be able to rule them," Shah added.

He said this government would be uprooted in the next elections due in 2018 and added that BJP would form the state government in Tripura.

Shah said the NDA government wanted real development of the 'beautiful north eastern region' and that was the reason for converting the Look East policy into 'Act East policy'.

Meanwhile, party general secretary Ram Madhav alleged that after Sitaram Yechury became the new CPI (M) chief he would take initiatives to unite the Congress and the CPI (M).

Madhav said that Tripura needed to get out of the grasp of both these parties for development, which could be brought about only by the BJP.

Shah was accompanied by party general secretary Ram Madhav and Sunil Deodhar, the Observer for Tripura on his maiden visit for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election campaign.

Shah's visit is two days long.
