In response to the BJP's claim of giving the nation its first OBC Prime Minister, Rashtriya Janta Dal president Lalu Prasad on Saturday claimed the statement by Amit Shah is completely false and misleading.

"I was a president of Janta Dal and in 1996, as a president of Janta Dal, I called the meeting in Bihar bhawan for appointment of prime minister. There were many senior politicians present there and I announced H. D. Devegowda as a Prime Minister, who took the oath as well in our presence with government permission. So I made the first Prime Minister from a backward community in the political history and not the BJP. The statement by Amit Shah is completely false and misleading," Lalu Prasad Yadav said.

Amit Shah on Friday said it was his party that gave the maximum number of OBC chief ministers and the first OBC prime minister to the country, adding that only his party could work for the welfare of backward classes.
