The Lok Sabha elections are two years away but BJP President Amit Shah has already set his eyes on the goal and begun strategising for 2019. Over the next six months, Shah will set out on a nation-wide tour, travelling the length and breadth of the country, with an aim that the party surpass its 2014 performance. Called the Mega Pravas Plan, the tour will focus on team work and reinforcing cadre.

Shah will kick off the Plan with a three-day tour of West Bengal, starting April 25. This will be followed by a two-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir from April 29.

Shah will reach Himachal Pradesh in May and Gujarat in July. He will also visit the north-east states of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manipur and Nagaland.

Shah has already deputed party national general secretaries to visit these states in advance to make necessary arrangements. A few will even travel with him during the tours.

For this strategic tour plan, the party has classified the states into three categories — A, B and C. Category ‘A’ includes states where the party has a strong base. This includes 13 BJP-ruled states and Union territory of Chandigarh. Shah, in these states, will hold one-to-one meet with top leaders, including chief minister and his ministers to discuss various governance issues.

“Organisational core group meetings will be held for the development of the less progressive areas of the states and to take up the Central schemes. This will include meetings with booth-level workers,” said a source.

Category ‘B’ states sates are where BJP is not in power but is evolving. Shah’s visit to these states will focus on expanding the party base along with strengthening the organisation, fixing problems and taking corrective measures. Preparing ground for assembly elections in states like Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, J&K and Delhi will be part of this.

Kerala, West Bengal, and a couple of the north-east states and two Union territories are kept in the ‘C’ category.

Importantly, Shah will also interact with RSS cadre and have informal meetings over tea in all the states he visits to get a political and social perspective from them at the ground level.
