Amit Shah, National President, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), kicked off a nationwide initiative on Sunday in the Capital, wherein voters from polling booths would be brought under one roof to listen to Prime Minister's Mann ki Baat radio show. Shah marked the first such event at the Ravidas Camp slum cluster in RK Puram, Delhi, that is largely inhabited by people from lower castes. The event has been viewed as part of their outreach programme — aiming slum dwellers and lower-castes in the Capital — a section of voters that had lent their weight to the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2015 Delhi Assembly Elections.

Shah's presence at the slum cluster also comes in the backdrop of Delhi BJP unit chief Manoj Tiwari's visits to different slum pockets in the Capital. Prior to the civic elections and following the BJP victory, Tiwari has visited two-three slum clusters to highlight the lack of civic amenities and has used these visits to attack Kejriwal too.

At the Mann ki Baat event on Sunday, residents of the Ravidas camp and adjacent slums were invited to join Shah at the Saint Ravidas temple premises to listen to the PM's show. Around 250 people, with a majority of women, arrived at the temple. The BJP President was accompanied by MP Meenakshi Lekhi, Tiwari, BJP National Secretary Ram Lal, and BJP Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju.

Some residents of the area were disappointed at Shah not speaking at all at the event.
