BJP President Amit Shah addressed a press conference on Monday to have the last word on the PM's degree row. He alongside Arun Jaitley displayed PM Modi's BA and MA degrees. Over the last few days, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has raised the issue prominently, alleging that PM Modi doesn't have any BA degree from Delhi University.

Visibly chuffed, Amit Shah today slammed Kejriwal after showing PM Modi's degrees to the media. He said, "It is unfortunate that this issue was raked up so much" and he expressed regret about the "declining state of political discourse" in the country. He also asked Arvind Kejriwal to apologise to the nation for levelling allegations. Amit Shah said, "Degrees will be put in the public domain and one copy of it will also be sent to Kejriwal to reassure him". The BJP President also asked media to show restraint and publish stories about such allegations after due verification. Shah said Kejriwal had made the allegations without even trying to know the truth.

Speaking later, Arun Jaitley said that this is an example of how low the political discourse has gone in the country. Taking a jibe at AAP, he said the issue is raised by a party whose leaders are being prosecuted for false degrees. He also recollected the years when PM Modi used to come to Delhi to appear for exams and stayed in the ABVP office. The Union Finance Minister said that it was no mean feat for a person coming from a low strata to pursue education and that a party which speaks about welfare of the aam aadmi should understand this. Jaitley slammed Kejriwal for "irresponsible" behaviour and said "politics of adventurism" is being treated as a substitute for governance. Jaitley said that they were showing the degree to end the discourse about non-issues.

Upping the ante regarding the row over PM Modi's educational qualification, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had earlier written a long letter to the DU's VC filled with explosive allegations.

In the letter, he said, "From the last few days there is a huge controversy over PM Modi's degree. There are questions whether he indeed passed BA degree from DU. Some reports suggest he hasn't done it. According to sources, neither admission form, nor marksheet, no certificate or any other record is present with DU. This is a serious matter because Gujarat Univ is saying that he has done MA from there. So if he hasn't done BA, how did he do MA?"

Three Aam Aadmi Party leaders last week met Delhi University authorities to seek proof of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's graduation degree and claimed that the varsity asked them to approach PMO for the information. The AAP leaders' visit to the university came a week after the Central Information Commission directed DU and Gujarat University to provide the information to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had recently criticised the functioning of the transparency panel.

Gujarat University had earlier said that PM has an MA degree and scored 62.3% as an external student of the varsity. The party leaders including Ashutosh, Raghav Chadha and Ashish Khetan had gone to DU with an authorisation letter from the CM to collect the information.
