Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday blamed the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for doing injustice to the backward classes of Maharashtra in the 15 years of their rule in the state. "For past 15 years, the Congress and the NCP have been doing injustice to every backward class," said Shah while addressing a rally here.
He also held them responsible for ruining the condition of Maharashtra in these years. "In 15 years, the Maharashtra government has ruined the state. There was a time when it used to be the best in every field, but in these 15 years, the state government did so much of corruption that it started lagging behind in every sector, like education, irrigation, and so on," Shah added.
Holding the Maharashtra government responsible for the farmers suicides that have plagued the state, Shah said, "Every year at least 3500 farmers used to commit suicide despite of India's agriculture minister for the past 10 years hailing from Maharashtra."
Further recalling the scams under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, Shah criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for questioning the amount of work done by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government since coming to power. "The Congress did so many scams during their rule and now they are asking us what Prime Minister Modi has done in four months. Sonia Gandhi should first tell what her party has done in the past 60 years," said Shah.
The BJP, which will be contesting the Maharashtra legislative assembly polls for the first time in 25 years after breaking their alliance with the Shiv Sena over seat sharing, is confident that a wave in favour of Prime Minister Modi will enable it to win the state. The election for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly is scheduled to be held on October 15 while the counting of votes will take place on October 19.
