BJP national president Amit Shah on Saturday called upon the party’s social media volunteers to counter the misinformation campaign by the opposition and spread the good work being done by the party.

The battle for electoral victory will not be based solely on the foot soldiers or karykarta, the cyber warriors of BJP would be the driving force behind its victory in 2018 and 2019, Shah said in the meeting.

At the beginning his address Shah described Raje as the popular chief minister of Rajasthan under whom the party would be contesting elections in Rajasthan.  “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Vasundhara Raje have done nothing that can make you hang your head in shame. I say this in the capacity of the national president of your party. Not only has there been no corruption, we have benefitted crore of people through their schemes.”

Addressing the volunteers his dear ‘cyber warriors’ the BJP President gave them tips and means to achieve their target. It was a cheerful Shah who brought energy among the cyber volunteers through anecdotes, stories, jokes and questions.

The BJP President credited the 2014 victory to three factors - the immense support of the people across the country, the vast organisation network of the party and the cyber volunteers who countered every disinformation campaign against the BJP by the Congress.

He cautioned the ‘cyber warriors’ that they had only three months to implement their plans into action.

He said that that 22 crore persons are beneficiaries of the various schemes run by the Central and state governments and the only way to reach them is through social media. “We got 13 crore votes to form a government and we have benefited 22 crore persons. But people think that the local patwari has obliged and helped them. It is your duty, my cyber warriors, to inform them that your leaders of your party BJP have sent those beneficiary schemes,” Shah said.

There was message for the party workers too. Shah cautioned them that electoral battles and wars cannot be won on the basis of emotions and talk. “Minute planning, proper implementation and adequate monitoring along with speedy percolation of information to the grassroots are the key. React with facts and speed,” Shah said, further instructing the party workers to lace drab data with the spice of wit.

He told them that there were three main requirements of social media volunteers namely; equipping all teams with data about work done by state and central government, prepare comparative analysis between Congress and BJP governments’ works and develop an internal communication to share and spread data to the smallest decentralised unit.

This, Shah said, was the ammunition of social media teams. “The mobile is your gun and cannon and data is the ammunition. This is the armament needed to fight the social media battle with the Congress.”

Shah told them that the battle of social media is won by those who have brains, speed and who can spread the message far and wide. He told them to increase their skills in these aspects. This he said is the only way to set the agenda of the political discourse.

The national president told his party volunteers them to move beyond and rise above issues like ‘transfers, postings’ and work towards larger goals of ensuring a win for the party. “Leave such issues and subsequent resentment with the party to the Congress. You need to rise above this and move with a target to ensure a win for the party to change the society,” he told the gathering. Learn to work for the party and the nation that is the only way we can survive he said.

Shah’s message to the social media makes it abundantly clear that the battle for electoral victory is to be fought at several levels and social media would be an important means.
