BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday targeted the Congress party over its leaders' controversial statements on Kashmir. Naming Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shah said the Congress leader in Upper House of the Parliament even got the support of the Lashkar-e-Taiba for his statement.

Earlier this week, Azad sparked a controversy when he said Army operations in Jammu and Kashmir killed more civilians than terrorists. Reportedly, in an emailed statement, LeT spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi quoted chief Mahmood Shah saying they agreed with Azad.

Speaking at a rally in Jammu, Shah said, "Ghulam Nabi Azad bayan karte hain, main to apne munh se us bayan ko dohra bhi nahin sakta. Wo bayan karte hain, aur bayan karte hi Lashkar-e-Taiba iska samarthan kar deta hai (I cannot even repeat what Ghulam Nabi Azad said. He speaks and soon gets the support of Lashkar-e-Taiba)."

The BJP chief arrived in Jammu today to address a rally to mark "historic martyrdom anniversary" of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, days after his party's decision to withdraw support from the PDP-led government in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP observes June 23 as Mookerjee's 'Balidan Diwas'.

"Last year when I came to J&K, we were in a coalition govt. Today, President's rule is imposed here since we took back our support. Political parties regret when their govt falls but BJP is the only party which raised slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. It shows BJP's patriotism," Shah said.

Shah, who is on a day-long trip to the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was accorded a rousing reception with party's youth wing taking out a bike rally from the airport to the state guest house.

Shah would chair the party's election committee meeting to discuss the issues for the next election. He will also hold meetings with digital media and social media volunteers, and participate in other organisational events.

The strategy of the party for the next year's Lok Sabha elections is part of the discussions as the party is prepared to face the elections, a BJP leader said.
