 Playing  peacenik, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday hoped that the present acrimonious discourse between India and Pakistan would give way to a discourse of harmony, peace and friendship.

Mehbooba’s olive branch came a day after Pakistan army provoked India when they fired indiscriminately on the Indian posts killing a Lance Naik on the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district. “People of the state have suffered a lot due to acrimony, bitterness and hostilities between India and Pakistan. Hope that the present acrimonious discourse between the two neighbouring countries would give way to a discourse of harmony, peace and friendship”, Mehbooba said.

Chief Minister was addressing the attestation cum passing out parade at Subsidiary Training Centre in Talwara area of Reasi in Jammu division. Around 911 jawans passed out from the Subsidiary Training Centre, after completing the Basic Training for Recruit Constables. Since its establishment, 11851 jawans have passed out from the training Centre. Invoking Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mehbooba said during the rule of former Prime Minister peace prevailed on the borders and the leaderships on both the sides ensured that nothing against each other comes from their territories.

“People of the state have suffered a lot due to continued violence of past 30 years. When we should have be providing them good schools, hospitals and other amenities of modern life, there is a demand for construction of bunkers in the border areas. This situation has to be changed and the pain and agony of the people of the State should be heard”, she said Mehobba’s peace overtures comes on the day a tearful homage was paid to Lance Naik Yogesh Muralidhar Bhadane, who laid down his life guarding the nation’s frontiers while serving at the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector on Saturday

A military send off was organised, wherein, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Crossed Swords Division among other military dignitaries, laid wreaths on behalf of Lt Gen D Anbu, Army Commander, Northern Command and Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh, GOC White Knight Corps.  Hailing from village Khalane of district Dhule in Maharshatra, Lance Naik Yogesh Muralidhar Bhadane, 28, is survived by his wife.

 “Lance Naik Yogesh Muralidhar Bhadane was a dedicated, brave and sincere soldier and a thorough professional. The nation will remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty. He will continue to motivate the future generations”, said Colonel NN Joshi, defence spokesman at Jammu.
