India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday slammed Union external affairs minister Salman Khurshid in the latter’s constituency Farrukhabad over the alleged scam in prosthetics for the handicapped. The minister hails from Farrukhabad. At a well-attended rally, Kejriwal also railed at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for allegedly stalling punitive action against Khurshid.
Khurshid’s supporters at one point threatened to disrupt the IAC rally. Just before Kejriwal reached the venue, local Congress workers and Khurshid supporters clashed with IAC activists near the Awas Vikas Ground, the rally venue. Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) workers armed with canes came to the IAC activists’ rescue and chased away Khurshid supporters who had apparently come prepared to disrupt the rally.
Kejriwal mocked at Khurshid and even dared him to try and harm any IAC activist. “I am told there are just 25-30 supporters of Salman Khurshid trying to create trouble outside the rally ground. I wonder how Congress will win this seat with Khurshid having such a small number of supporters,” Kejriwal quipped. He called upon the people of Farrukhabad to ensure Khurshid’s defeat in the next election.
“Salman Khurshid had said we could come to Farrukhabad but could not return. Now we are here and we would be going back in the evening. I challenge Salman Khurshid to do whatever he can. Let him try and harm any IAC worker,” Kejriwal said.
“Salman Khurshid has snatched the crutches of the handicapped. He should resign and he should be in jail. Why is Sonia Gandhi silent on this” he asked.
He did not spare Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav, too.
“Akhilesh Yadav says he will get an inquiry done. But the inquiry has already been completed. We have the report. The only thing that needs to be done is to arrest Salman Khurshid and put him behind bars. But Akhilesh Yadav is only trying to cover up. Akhilesh, Mulayam, Khurshid, P Chidambaram they are all hand in glove,” he said.
