The move sent the political rumour mills into an overdrive in the restive state.

More than 29 leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including MLAs, MLCs, MPs and other leaders were part of the delegation that flew to New Delhi to pay tributes to the departed poet-politician.

Around 18 of 28 PDP MLA were part of the delegation that visited the national Capital to pay homage to Vajpayee. Five rebel PDP MLAs who have revolted against the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti were not part of the delegation.

The rebel PDP MLAs and MLCs remained away from the delegation though they took to Twitter to pay tributes to the departed leader.

"In the death of Atalji a statesman passes away. He was truly a peoples' man. I vividly recall as a child my father's interactions with the great man. He will be a reference point for the younger generation aspiring to lead," tweeted Imran Reza Ansari, PDP rebel MLA from Pattan and former sports minister.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra also left for New Delhi to attend the funeral of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vohra had served him for several years, when he was carrying out a dialogue with all segments in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
