The death toll in the Nagaland ambush where suspected Naga insurgents assaulted a team of Assam Rifles jawans has gone up to four, reports say.

The incident occurred around 3 pm near Aboi when armed cadres ambushed a team comprising six Assam Rifles personnel, said the PRO to the Inspector General of Assam Rifles.

According to reports, the Assam Rifles personnel, along with troopers from the Territorial army, were on their way to fetch water from a river when they were attacked by the suspected terrorists with Improvised Explosive Device(IED) and grenades near Aboi, 35 km from the district headquarters.

The attack has taken place at a crucial point, at a time when the Centre and pro-talk Naga rebel groups like NSCK (Isak-Muivah) have advanced their dialogues to the next level. This type of ambushed attack on the Assam Rifles jawans has already happened once, India.com reported.

The security men retaliated the attack, but casualty on the other side was yet to be ascertained.

The official said the involvement of suspected Naga underground groups in the ambush was not yet confirmed while there have been no claims made by any group.
