With just seven days left for the Amarnath Yatra, top commanders reviewed the security and administrative arrangements for the annual pilgrimage in the Himalayas on Thursday.

Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General AK Bhatt and Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid along with Victor Force Commander, IGP Kashmir Zone and IG CRPF carried out a joint review of arrangements for the upcoming Yatra.

“The high level joint delegation also reconnoitered the routes and took stock of the security setup at key locations. The continued synergy among various stakeholders was emphasised by the Senior Commanders while interacting with the troops and officials on ground” an army spokesman said.

On Wednesday, Governor NN Vohra also chaired a security meeting and reviewed important security related issues related to the Shri Amarnath Yatra.

This year, the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine will start on Jyestha Purnima that falls on June 28. The 60-day pilgrimage will conclude on Shravan Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) that falls on August 26. 

More than 24,000 troops of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police are being deployed for the Amaranth Yatra this year. Official figures reveal 213 companies of CAPF will be deployed this year against 181 companies in 2017.
