Akram Khan, a resident of Kolgaon village in Firozpur Jhirka police station area in Haryana, was lynched by a mob in Alwar late last night on the suspicion of being a cow smuggler.
As another incident of mob lynching, allegedly by cow vigilantes, took place in Rajasthan's Alwar, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday said that more incidents like this will happen as the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi rises.
"The more popular Modi ji becomes, more such incidents will happen. In Bihar election, it was 'Award Wapsi', UP election it was mob lynching. In 2019 elections it will be something else. Modi ji has given schemes and their effect is being seen, this is its reaction," Meghwal said.
"We condemn mob lynching but this isn't a single incident. You have to trace this back in history. Why does this happen? Who should stop this? What happened with Sikhs in 1984 was the biggest mob lynching of this nation's history," the minister said in reaction to the lynching incident.
Akram Khan, a resident of Kolgaon village in Firozpur Jhirka police station area in Haryana, was lynched by a mob late last night on the suspicion of being a cow smuggler. The incident took place near Lalwandi village in the Ramgarh thana area of Alwar. He was accompanied by another person and they were in possession of two cows. They were on foot. It is not yet clear as to who assaulted Akram and killed him.
Anil Beniwal, ASP Alwar, said the police was trying to identify the attackers.
A case has been registered against unidentified people under IPC Section 302, Ramgarh police station SHO Subhash Sharma said.
Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria promised strict action against those responsible.
"There is no guarantee that if we bring a provision of capital punishment for murder then there will be no murder. But we're trying to make laws stricter," Kataria said.
The incident comes a little more than a year after Pehlu Khan, a dairy farmer from Haryana's Mewat, was lynched by cow vigilantes in Alwar. He was attacked when he was transporting cattle to his village in Haryana as the mob suspected him of smuggling cows.
He died at a hospital two days after the incident on April 3 last year.
Alwar has become infamous for incidents of cow-related lynchings as several such attacks have happened in the district over the past year.
