In a shocking incident, a spine-chilling video of a middle-aged man thrashing his 82-year-old paralytic mother in Rajasthan has gone viral on social media.

The 50-year-old man believed to be a teacher was seen brutally choking his mother and ruthlessly tossing her around in Alwar's Shajahanpur. Jogendra Choudhary was seen repeatedly hitting her and tossing her back and forth like a broken doll while the paralytic woman who couldn't fight back was seen trembling in shock and despair. The woman died nine days after the incident and the video was shot by the accused's nephew on January 18.

According to the accused' nephew, the man regularly mistreated his mother and he shot the video to expose how his uncle brutally tortured his grandmother.

The police has filed an FIR under multiple sections of IPC against the English teacher and the investigation is underway. "Went to man's house but he was not there. It is being said that video is of 18 Jan, investigation is underway," a police officer was quoted as saying by ANI.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Delhi High Court (HC) on October last year claimed that there is no law to protect parents, apart from senior citizens, from the hostility and violence of their children.

A Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Harishankar sought the response of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on the plea that was filed by a 57-year-old man. The petition also wanted the term 'senior citizen' to include parents who have not yet attained the age of 60 years.

The court directed the police to provide protection to the petitioner when he visits his home, where he has not been staying, as he fears there is threat to his life at the hands of his 34-year-old son.

Ghanshyam Singh Rawat has alleged that his younger son, along with some others, had severely assaulted him and tried to kill him when he refused to sell his house, and give the proceeds to him. He also alleged that the police failed to act against his son, thereby adding that when he was hospitalised after the assault, his son broke into the house and forcibly occupied it.

The petitioner further said that he does not want any maintenance but only peace. He further claimed that he cannot avail any benefit under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act as it caters only to parents who have attained the status of senior citizen.

The plea has also sought striking down of the provision in the Act that creates the distinction between parents who are senior citizens and those who are not. Rawat said the Act does not contain any provision to meet the needs of persons like him, who do not seek any maintenance from their children but only wish to be allowed to live in peace.

He also contended that such people need to be protected from hostile and violent children who are only interested in grabbing the properties of their parents and do not care how much suffering they cause.
