The Uttarakhand BJP legislature party has elected Trivendra Singh Rawat as the next CM of the state. The decision was taken in the presence of the party's central observers.
The BJP scored a massive victory in the recently held Assembly elections winning 57 of the 70 seats.
Rawat was a member of the RSS between 1983 and 2002. He held the position of the organising secretary of the Uttarakhand region, and later the state from 2000.
Rawat was elected from Doiwala in the state's first assembly elections in 2002 and retained the seat in 2007, following which he served as the state's minister of agriculture.
As a party member, Rawat served as Jharkhand's in-charge and Uttarakhand cadre's president.
Rawat has a post-graduate degree in History and a diploma in Journalism from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, according to his affidavit.
Rawat is reportedly close to BJP President Amit Shah and had worked with him in Uttar Pradesh before the general elections of 2014.
