DMK working president MK Stalin said on Saturday that all Tamil Nadu MPs should resign if Prime Minister Narendra Modi refuses to meet an all-party delegation seeking implementation of the Supreme Court order to set up the Cauvery Management Board within six weeks.

After his meeting with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the secretariat on the Cauvery issue, Stalin, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, said that he made this suggestion after Palaniswami told him that the Prime Minister declined to meet the all-party delegation.

Within minutes, fisheries minister D Jayakumar denied Stalin's claim saying that neither the Prime Minister's Office nor the PM has declined to the meet the delegation. The centre had informed that the delegation could first meet the concerned minister and later the PM, he said.

Stalin said he told Palaniswami that the Assembly could be convened and a subsequently a resolution can be adopted to step up pressure on the Centre to set up the board, as directed by the SC. Palaniswami invited Stalin to the meeting in the wake of the all-party meeting convened by the Karnataka government on March 7 in Bengaluru to discuss the apex court verdict on Cauvery and its order to setup CMB.

Stalin also said the Chief Minister told him that they could wait till March 5 and if there was no communication, he assured that the House will be convened on March 8. "The Prime Minister declining to meet the delegation is an insult to Tamil Nadu," he said.

Jayakumar said the government was hopeful of getting a positive response from the PM on Monday. "We have four more weeks for the Centre to decide on setting up the regulatory mechanisms as per the SC order," the minister said.
