Opposition presidential candidate Meira Kumar on Tuesday said that she will start her poll campaign from the Sabarmati and contest the Presidential polls on the plank of democratic values.

Addressing the media, Kumar said, "I will start Presidential poll campaign from Sabarmati and will face presidential polls on plank of democratic values, inclusiveness, end of poverty, destruction of caste structure."

When asked about being targeted by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who questioned Kumar's neutrality by tweeting a 2013 video and a news report on Lok Sabha proceedings, she said, "All MPs appreciated my style of functioning when I was Lok Sabha speaker; none alleged I was biased."

On questions of the Presidential polls being seen as a Dalit vs Dalit contest, she said such a thought process has to be buried.

When questioned about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar supporting NDA's candidate Ram Nath Kovind, Kumar said that such things happen in politics and she would decide what to do at the right time.

75-year-old Kumar is the joint opposition candidate of 17 non-NDA parties against the ruling dispensation's nominee Ram Nath Kovind.

She will file her nomination on June 28, the last date to do so, and is likely to be accompanied by top Congress and opposition leaders.

Kumar, a former Lok Sabha speaker, will launch her campaign immediately after the scrutiny of nominations on June 29.

Earlier, Kumar had made an emotional appeal to the electorate comprising MPs and MLAs to cast their vote with their "inner conscience".

She also said the President's post cannot be used for narrow political interests.
