All in their 20s, Gurez army martyrs gave befitting reply to Pak infiltrators

In an early morning ambush, four armymen including a major rank official were killed at Govind Nallah in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Gurez is situated in Bandipora of North Kashmir. 

The four armymen killed during the attack has been identified as 29-year-old Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, a native from Maharashtra's Thane; rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat, 26, from Uttarakhand's Shivpur village in Kotdwar district; riflemen Hameer Singh, 28, from Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi town and gunner Vikram Jeet Singh, 25, from Haryana's Ambala.

According to initial reports, the securitymen foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists ahead of Independence Day. In the resulting gunfire, 4 armymen lost their lives. However, the Indian army gave a befitting reply killing at least terrorists. Two more have been killed reportedly, though their bodies haven't been recovered.

According to reports, the Pakistan army provided covering fire when the infiltrators were crossing the border. They were challenged by Indian army and a gun fire ensued. The operation is still underway. Additional troops were rushed to the spot. Initial reports said a group of eight was trying to infiltrate into the country. Of them, four ran back to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, officials said.

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday foiled a major terror plot by the Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind wherein it planned to carry out serial blasts in New Delhi on Independence Day. Police arrested Irfan Hussain Wani from Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, believed to be heading to Delhi to hand over a cache of grenades to his contact as eight live grenades and Rs 55,000 cash were found on his person.
