The tourism sector would be adversely hit if there is an "exaggerated and alarmist" media coverage of this year's floods, Congress today said.

"The is no fear of repeat of last year's floods in Kashmir...but there is a threat of tourists deserting the Valley," Congress Legislature Party Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora told reporters here.

He said the national media went overboard with "scaremongering".

"In the light of last year's experience of large-scale deaths and destruction, the media coverage of the floods was exaggerated and alarmist," Jora said.

"This may not augur well for coming tourist season.

Tourism is a media-sensitive sector and is hugely impacted by media coverage," he said.
