The feud within the Yadav clan of the ruling Samajwadi Party is threatening to raise its ugly head again that may ruin party's chances in the coming Assembly elections unless it is laid to rest once more by party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday indicated that he was unhappy with the choice of 23 names of candidates that his uncle Shivpal Yadav has decided to give a ticket to, as it tantamount to succumbing to Mafia pressure that goes against the image Akhilesh is trying to build.

"This is not the first list and this is not going to be the last list as tickets are changed till the last moment. This has happened earlier also. We will only field those who can win elections. I will give my suggestions and advice on assembly tickets to the party president,"said Akhilesh pointing out that he is going to take it up with his father Mulayam Yadav.

The list released on Saturday includes names of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's brother, sitting Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED) MLA Sigbatullah Ansari who has been nominated from Mohammadabad in Ghazipur – a seat he holds currently.

A few weeks ago Akhilesh Yadav had openly opposed QED's merger with Samajwadi Party taking it up to a showdown with uncle Shivpal that almost took the party on the verge of a vertical split.

The other controversial name in the list is of mafia don Ateeq Ahmad who Shivpal has decided to field from Kanpur Cantt seat. An accused in the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA, Raju Pal and former MP from Phoolpur, Ateeq is Another controversial name in the list released on Saturday is that of mafia don Ateeq Ahmad who has been fielded from Kanpur Cantt seat.

Ateeq, an accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, is on Akhilesh Yadav's blacklist. A former MP from Phoolpur, Ateeq was also president of the Apna Dal from 1999 to 2003.

Another name that may be objected by Akhilesh is of Hasnuddin Siddiqui, warring brother of BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui. He has been named as SP candidate from Banda seat. Naseemuddin is considered a close confidant of BSP president Mayawati and is the Muslim face of her party. Though Shivpal changed a few candidates, the name of Aman Mani Tripathi, who was recently arrested by the CBI for the murder of his wife Sara Singh, remains on the list. Akhilesh apparently did not approve of his candidature and it was expected that the party might replace him.

Akhilesh another uncle, Ramgopal Yadav, who is member secretary of the Samajwadi Party board that decides tickets, is yet to speak on the issue. And when he does, it will surely create fresh ripples, say observers.
