Continuing with the crackdown on illegal haul of sophisticated weapons in Bihar's Munger district, the police on Tuesday seized around 75 different attachments of the AK-47 rifles from a well in Mirzapur Bardah village in the district.

Bihar's Additional Director General (police headquarters) SK Singhal said a terror angle could not be ruled out in the case and assistance will be taken from other security and intelligence agencies to crack it. "We have already asked the Enforcement Directorate to look into its financial aspects by probing the wealth amassed by the accused," he said.

A source said the arrested accused have also taken the names of some politicians and musclemen as their buyers and links with Left Wing Extremists could not be ruled out either.

Confirming the development, Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Babu Ram said the confiscation was made on the basis of a statement given by one of the earlier arrested accused Aamna Khatoon, who during interrogation told the police that parts of rifles had been hidden in a well at the home of one Manzar alias Manji in the village.

"The police employed the help of divers and found the attachments, which were securely wrapped in plastic bags to avoid any damage. We have much more information in the case and the next few days will see more action in the matter," Ram said.

The parts which have been seized by the police on Tuesday include — magazines, pistol grip, bridge bolt, fold butt, gas tube, body cover, spring and guard.

Since August 29, altogether 20 AK-47 rifles and several of its attachments have been seized from the Bardah village and a multi-state racket spanning Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar has been unravelled by the Munger Police. Five FIRs have been lodged and six persons have been arrested in connection with the recoveries while raids are underway to nab more.

"Also, the sheer number of attachments which have been confiscated within a month point to the possibility that either these parts were locally assembled at Munger and the fully assembled rifle was then delivered to buyers, or repair and restoration work of damaged rifles took place there, or both," said a senior cop.
