AISSF to move International Court on SYL

Activists of All-India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) carrying banners and placards here today took out a 'liberation march' to highlight the magnitude of state's water issue.

The march started from Akal Takhat and culminated at Harike Pattan barrage from where Rajasthan and Bikaner canals originate which are supplying Punjab waters to Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi.

To challenge the Centre's control over Punjab's water, AISSF announced filing a case before International Tribunal in Hague, Netherlands as it alleged violation of riparian rights of the indigenous people.

Questioning Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad said, "How will these leaders stop SYL when the Supreme Court has directed to construct the Canal?" "On what forum in India these leaders plan to challenge Supreme Court's order on SYL," he said, adding why Amarinder, Kejriwal and Badal were not talking about Bhakra Canal which is already supplying 17 million acres feet (MAF) to Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

"I dare Amarinder, Kejriwal and Badal to have a public debate on Punjab's water issue before the February 4 elections and tell the people as to how they plan to stop the SYL construction after Supreme Court's decision?" he said.
