28-year-old JNU student allegedly raped by AISA activist in hostel

An activist of All India Students Association (AISA) was booked for allegedly raping a 28-year-old student of Jawaharlal Nehru University.

According to the police, officials in South Delhi on Su received a complaint by a first year PhD student alleged that she has been raped by one Anmol Ratan, who is a student of JNU and activist of student organisation AISA.

The incident is said to have taken place inside the campus on August 20.

"She has alleged that in the month of June 2016, she had put a statement on FB that she wanted to watch a film called Sairat and asked if anyone had a copy.

She alleged that Anmol messaged her that he is having a copy of film. She further added that on August 20, Anmol picked her from her hostel to give her the film and took her to his hostel Brahamputra where he offered some drinks to her and after that committed sexual assault with her and did not allow her to go & threatened her," said a senior police official.

According to police on the basis of statement of complainant a case under section 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
"Action will be taken according to the provisions of law," said a officer.

In a statement by AISA, Delhi Secretary of the student union said that Anmol had been expelled after the filing of a criminal case against him.

"AISA takes serious note of the fact that Anmol Ratan, a leading activist of AISA, is facing a criminal complaint of sexual assault. He is henceforth expelled from the primary membership of AISA. AISA will reflect on and deal with this issue with all the firmness it deserves. AISA will be unflinching for the principles of gender justice even if it involves a leading member of the organisation. We stand by the complainant in her fight for justice."
