Euro school in Airoli will be representing Navi Mumbai at the National Children's Science Congress (NCSC), which will be held in Bangalore.

In its 22nd year, 33 districts are participating from Maharashtra, with almost 2,700 projects getting registered. The topic given for all the projects was 'Understanding Weather and Climate' and enthusiastic students came up with innovative topics and experiments.

Students of class VII of Euro school prepared a study based on the effects of glass usage in architectural buildings in cities. Since the last two months, these students have been preparing themselves for the project.

"Even during Diwali vacations, the children were busy with the project. In fact, they had started working on it much before Diwali by preparing the questionnaire for survey and experiments," says Chitra More, a parent of one of the students.

The students participating for the competition are Ved More, Siddarth Venkatesh, Samarjeet Chavan, Shubham Thakkar and Nishtha Gadda. The state-level selection for these projects happened at Biyani Military School in Jalgaon. It was More and Venkatesh who represented the school with the project for the state-level selections. They will now head for the national-level competition from the December 27 to 31.

More is a resident of Airoli whereas other children stay in Mulund. "We have received immense support from our school, especially from our teacher Jennifer Watson. She even accompanied us for the state selections. The principal also gave us immense encouragement. They helped us in understanding, working on the research and also motivated us to reach the finals," said More.

The project was based on experiments and theories and so the students conducted an experiment to highlight how reflective glass on buildings has effects on the moisture content inside. Their experiments proved this fact and it was supported by the survey they had conducted.

During the state-level screening, from the 33 districts, only 53 projects were chosen. Now, for the finals, students of Euro school will be competing with 26 other projects from the state.
"These events and competitions motivate children to not only think out-of-the-box, but also to come up with creative and innovative ideas. They get to do their own research and this will help in their overall development. Also, by visiting other cities, they will get good exposure," said Surendra Dighe, an education activist and founder of Jigyasa Trust, that is managing operations in Maharashtra for NCSC.
