The All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday declared results for the entrance examination for the MBBS course at 9 AIIMS centres in Delhi, Patna, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Rishikesh, Raipur, Guntur (AP) and Nagpur (Maharashtra).

It was in the middle of lunch that Amitabh Chauhan, a city student got a call informing him of his performance in the AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam 2018. The Chauhan family never finished their lunch after they came to know that Amitabh was ranked 5th in the exam in the country. The topper admits that he too was surprised by the result.

“I had studied hard and had done well in the exam. In the AIIMS-MBBS exam physics was a bit tough, but I had done well in it and I was confident of scoring well but I did not expect to be in the top 5,” said the student of St Ann’s school, Bopal.

Chauhan attributes his success to not just religiously studying NCERT books but also referencing extra material. “My coaching class also helped,” said Chauhan. The teen said he studied for eight hours during weekdays and 12 to 14 hours during weekends. But he warns that it did not mean he never took time to chill out. “In fact, I regularly played badminton and that is how I destress myself,” said Chauhan who admits that even his friends never believed him when he said he did take time out to chill out too!

Chauhan, whose grandfather suffered a heart attack aspires to be a cardiac surgeon but admits that he hasn’t planned that ahead.  “I always wanted to be a doctor. I was fixed on it since my class 10 and I focused all my energies on achieving it,” said Chauhan, whose father is also a doctor.

To those aspiring to crack the exam,  Chauhan warns that AIIMS exams are a bit different form NEET and other exams. “It also has GK questions. You need to prepare for all of it and most importantly you need to be fast at answering the questions if you want to score well,” said Chauhan.
