AIADMK to hold Jayalalithaa's 70th birth anniversary celebration in PM Modi's Varanasi

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's pet project "Amma scooter subsidy scheme" on the occasion of her 70th birth anniversary on February 24, AIADMK's Uttar Pradesh unit would be holding her birth anniversary celebration in Varanasi, the Parliamentary constituency of Modi, on March 10.

AIADMK's Rajya Sabha MP Dr V Maitreyan would preside over the function and distribute dhotis and sarees to the needy. It will be followed by a meal for the poor people.

AIADMK holding the birth anniversary celebration of Jayalalithaa in Modi's Varanasi seat has raised many an eyebrow. Maitreyan said that there was nothing political about the event. "The AIADMK's UP unit was formed in 2014. For some reasons, Amma's (Jayalalithaa) birthday could not be celebrated all along. This year they are holding her birth anniversary celebration for the first time. Incidentally, they have chosen Varanasi which is Prime Minister's constituency, is also a holy place for Hindus," he said.
