The Ahmednagar police on Monday arrested one more person in the mysterious murder case of three members of a Dalit family from Javkhede-Khalsa village in Ahmednagar's Pathardi taluka.

Almost a month and-a-half after the brutal triple murder – that of Sanjay Jadhav, his wife Jayshree and their 20-year-old son Sunil – at Ahmednagar, the police have arrested one more person. Ashok Jadhav, son of the deceased's elder brother Dilip Jadhav. Officers at Pathardi police station, where the case was registered, confirmed the arrest of Jadhav, 19.

Last week, police arrested Prashant Jadhav who is the elder son of Dilip Jadhav. Police produced Ashok before the local court on Monday. They have sought his custody for 10 days for further investigation.

The family of 3 had gone missing, and during a search operation, their chopped bodies were found in a well at Javkheda in Ahmednagar district, on October 22. Primary investigation has revealed that the murder was property-related and owing to a family dispute.

Police sources said that they had received hints about the killer from the Narco analysis test conducted on the family members of the deceased. Last week itself, the police suspected that other members of the family had helped Prashant in committing the crime.

Upon being interrogated, Prashant told police that his younger brother helped him commit the crime. They also suspect that Prashant had been hired as a contract killer. They have traced the weapon and vehicle used.

Pravin Salunke, inspector general of police, Nashik range, said: "We have arrested one more person on the basis of evidence, and have sought his custody for further investigation. We will arrest more people soon and file a charge sheet."

The incident had led to widespread protests and brought back memories of the horrific Khairlanji massacre in which four members of a Dalit family were brutally murdered.

Recently, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had met other members of the family and assured them of a speedy probe. The CM had said that if the police did not solve the case within a specific period of time, the state would have to think of transferring the case to the CBI.
