With festive season at its peak, the usage and consumption of ghee is also at an all time high. But, if the crackdown on fake ghee manufacturers in the city is anything to go by, one might want to be more cautious while purchasing the product.

Based on a tip-off, Ramol police on Thursday morning raided the factory owned by Dharmendra Rajput.  The factory manufacturing spurious ghee, butter and cream is located in Radhe Complex, Nirat crossroads, Vastral. This is the second incident in three days, the earlier one being the raid at a mini factory in Chandlodia on Tuesday.  Rajput is being interrogated by police.

Police seized fake products of total worth Rs3,55,400. These include 280 kg ghee worth Rs78,400, 580 kg  butter worth Rs1.33 lakh and 780 kg cream worth Rs1.44 lakh.

This ghee is supplied in many parts within and outside the city. Police sources suggest that the ghee is not fresh and is part of an old stock. It is adulterated by mixing palmolive oil and other essence. The police authorities intimated the food and drugs authority who have taken samples to be tested. Their report will be the basis of further legal action.

CL Solanki, PI, Ramol Police, said, “The food and drugs team was present with us to verify what exactly the products are made of. It is too early to lodge a complaint yet. Based on their report, we will take the next step. Right now we have seized the commodities.” He added that they are probing involvment of others, how long this activity has been going on and about the people who buy these products.
