Ahead of polls, Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviews development projects in Delhi

As Delhi braces for fresh polls, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed various development projects in the national capital and directed that all works be expedited promising timely-release of funds. The Home Minister also reviewed a Rs 500-crore project being prepared by the Delhi administration for beautification of the capital under the Swachha Bharat mission.

At a high-level meeting, attended by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Commissioner of Police BS Bassi, Chief Secretary Deepak Mohan Spolia, Singh reviewed the works on providing drinking water, sanitation, cleaning of Yamuna, and other ongoing projects of departments like PWD, health, education, urban development.

Status of regularisation of unauthorised colony, development of JJ cluster, transport sector, power sector and the working of municipal corporations and Delhi Development Authority were also reviewed. Official sources said the Home Minister directed that the ongoing projects should be expeditiously completed and where ever the assistance of central government is required, proposal should be submitted to it as early as possible for faster clearance. Singh directed Delhi Police to register FIR on each and every complaint and take all steps to ensure safety of women and people from the Northeast living here.

This was first such comprehensive meeting called by the Home Minister and attended by all stakeholders. Delhi is currently under President's Rule and Assembly election is likely to be held early next year. 

In the wake of recent clashes in Trilokpuri, the Home Minister directed Delhi Police to take stern action against rumour mongers and set up 'Aman' (peace) committee in sensitive areas.

Singh reviewed the progress of installation of CCTV cameras in different places and directed that incomplete works should be speeded up. He also asked Delhi Police to improve the working of traffic police and carry out anti-corruption drive more effectively so that people's perception about police is improved, the sources said.

The Home Minister told the Delhi government to discuss with Haryana government the issue of sharing water and getting due share of drinking and irrigation water.

Presentations were given about projects on flyovers, subways, foot overbridges, important buildings, multi-mode integration of transport, desilting of drains and health sectors.

Delhi is only government in the country that is spending 10% of the budget in health sector due to the high pressure on the national capital from neighbouring states.

The Home Minister reviewed the works of 14 under construction schools, six hostels for working women and asked for their early completion. Singh favoured construction of toilets near police stations, slums, JJ clusters and other public places.

He reviewed regularisation of unauthorised colony and directed that DDA and the Delhi government should coordinate with each other on the subject.

The three-hour meeting was also attended by Minister of State Kiren Rijiju, Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami, Joint Secretary (Union Territories) Rakesh Singh, besides others.
