Aftermath of Burhan Wani's death: These are the 16 people killed in Kashmir clashes

Over 200 have been injured.

At least sixteen people have been killed in arson following the death of poster boy of “new age” militancy, Burhan Wani, in Kashmir.  

Jammu and Kashmir remained on edge as the death toll of civilians in the clash with security forces reached 16, as three more succumbed to their injuries after protesting against the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.  Earlier, 12 civilians were killed in the clashes a day after Burhan Wani and his two associates were killed in an encounter in Anantnag. One among the deceased drowned in a local area while fleeing. Over 200 protesters have also been injured in the clashes across Kashmir.

Those killed have been identified as:

1. Saqib Manzoor Mir r/o Achabal, Anantnag

2. Khursheed Ahmad r/o Harwat Kulgam

3. Safeer Bhat r/o Charigam, Anantnag (drowned)

4. Adil Bashir r/o Dooru, Anantnag

5. Abdul Hameed Mochi r/o Arwani Kulgam

6. Danish Shah r/o Achabal Anantnag

7. Jehangir Ganai r/o Hassan Pora Bijbehara, Anantnag

8. Azad Hussain r/o Shopian

9. Aijaz Thokar r/o Siligam Anantnag

10. Mohammad Ashraf Dar r/o Kokernag Anantnag

11. Showkat Mir r/o Hassanpora, Bijbehara Anantnag

12. Haseeb r/o Batpora, Anantnag

13. Imtiaz Mandoo, s/0 Mohammad Shafi, r/o Nandpora Khanbal

14. Mashooq Ahmad r/o Qazigund (succumbed in SKIMS)

15. Mohammad Altaf Rather r/o Rajpora Pulwama

16. Irfan Malik, Nehama Pulwama

Meanwhile, protests and clashes continued to take place in various parts of Kashmir Valley. Separatists extended their call for strike up to Monday. All top  leaders are under arrest.

Pitched battles have been reported  from central Kashmir’s Soibugh area. Forces have resorted to aerial firing as protests refused to die down. Clashes are also reported from North Kashmir reaching areas of Lolab in Kupwara district.

In Srinagar, youth resorted to intense stone pelting at Nowgam while forces took to tear gas and flash bang shelling.

Reports of protests came from Pampore where forces resorted to aerial firing as well. Reports from Bandipora said that youths clashed with forces during the protest demonstrations against Burhan Wani’s killing.

The government has imposed severe restrictions across Kashmir including curfew and suspension of mobile internet.
