Uttar Pradesh Police is in news again and this time it’s for a curiously funny reason!
Any encounter in UP is bound to make headlines. But no one was prepared for what happened in Sambhal district on October 12.
In a video that has gone viral, a cop is seen shouting ‘thaain, thaain’ to scare the criminals.
#WATCH: Police personnel shouts 'thain thain' to scare criminals during an encounter in Sambhal after his revolver got jammed. ASP says, 'words like 'maaro & ghero' are said to create mental pressure on criminals. Cartridges being stuck in revolver is a technical fault'. (12.10) pic.twitter.com/NKyEnPZukh

According to the police, the encounter took place in Sambhal, which is 370 km away from state capital Lucknow. The police was trying to nab a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000.
During the encounter, the cop was left with no other option but to mimic the sound of a gunshot after his pistol jammed.
In the video, a police officer can be heard shouting ‘maaro, maaro, ghero ,thain, thain’ with the intention of scaring the criminals.
‘This was due to a technical glitch of the weapon that the officer was carrying, such things are not new and may happen at times. With regard to the cop shouting, it is a tact to deal with criminals mentally and create pressure on them to surrender,’ a senior cop was quoted as saying to news agency ANI.
During the course of the encounter, one police personnel sustained injuries, while a criminal was also nabbed after being shot. The said criminal was wanted in a number of robbery cases and was carrying an award of Rs 25,000 on his head.
Later, SP Yamuna Prasad said that the cops will be sent for ‘weapon training.’ It should be noted that no action has been taken against the cop seen in the viral video.
Recently, a UP Police constable was accused of killing an Apple area manager in cold blood in Lucknow. Though the accused cop claimed that the Apple executive tried to run him over in an attempt to flee the spot, the post-mortem report revealed that the victim ViveK Tiwari was shot from point-blank range.
