A day after a fringe Hindutva group conducted a wedding between a goat and a dog in a bid to protest Valentine's Day, members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) on Thursday brought the animals to the Coimbatore family court seeking a divorce of the newly wed unusual duo.

The members of the outfit brought both the animals to the court — adorned with garlands and wearing yellow threads as thali (mangalsutra). The goat and the dog were made to attest the handwritten petition with a print of their paws seeking a divorce as their life partners had left them in lurch.

TPDK general secretary G Ramakrishnan handed over the petition to advocates asking them to file it in the family court. "The Hindutuva outfits had conducted the wedding between a goat and a dog to oppose Valentine's Day celebration. This is an unnatural act and also amounts to cruelty of animals," he said.

Ramakrishnan said that a Hindu outfit had last year solemnised a wedding between a goat and a dog by naming them Alamelu and Anjali, but they were left in lurch at the same place later.

He said as per the tradition and culture, after marriage the couple should only live together.

"So we petitioned to the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner seeking to re-unite the 'estranged partners'. There was no action even after several days. Hence a decision has been taken to move the family court seeking divorce for the dog and goat," said Ramakrishnan.
