Buoyed by the overwhelming response of ‘selfie with cow’ contest, members of the NGO, Goseva Parivar, have now introduced photographs, essays, paintings and poem-writing competition on ‘gaumata’.

“We were inundated with enquiries and phone calls. Many suggested that they had wonderful pictures of cows shot by them but those were not selfies. Some others said that they would want to write poems and essays on ‘gaumata’. After considering those requests, we have decided to allow photographs other than selfies, paintings, essays and poems on ‘gaumata’ for the competition, which can be uploaded through the smartphone app, Goseva Parivar,” said Avishek Pratap Singh, a senior member of the NGO.

Organisers claim that they are not affiliated to any political party. “The idea is to spread the usefulness of cows. There are so many farmer deaths in the country as a result of poor yield. All these can be solved if we resort to organic farming and shun pesticides and fertilizers laced with chemicals. People should be educated that one of the chief requirement of organic farming is cow dung which will be available only if the cow is preserved,” said another senior member of the organisation. He also said that the competition would conclude on December 31 this year and results would be declared on January 21. “There is a prize money involved but we have not announced the amount because we don’t want that to be an incentive for participants. The love for cows should be the prodding factor. The prize money will be announced a day ahead of the results,” he said.
