Siliguri: 'No Refusal Taxi' kicks off

To enhance tourism in the region and provide employment, the much awaited and hyped 'no refusal' metered taxis have been started in Siliguri in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.

The metered taxi will play in the Siliguri sub division areas under the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA).

The main motto behind the service is to give employment to the local unemployed youths and to enhance the tourism industry of the region.

During her four days visit to the hills last week, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave away some offer letters to the local youths at a government organized function.

Praising the step, a local youth who got an offer letter said, "I was unemployed, but now I am happy. It is a Durga puja gift from the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee."

According to the transport authority, a total of 1,552 permits have been provided to the selected youths of the region.
