After J&K army man, cop flees with AK 47

Ten days after a serving army man joined Hizbul Mujhadeen, a Jammu and Kashmir policeman deserted his post and decamped with his service riffle in the central Kashmir's Budgam district on Tuesday night.

Constable Tariq Ahmad was posted in Pakherpora Police Post when he fled along with AK 47 riffle and 30 rounds on Tuesday night. A resident of Shopian district in south Kashmir, Constable Tariq went missing soon after he started his night shift duty at the sentry of the Police post.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir Range, Vidhi Kumar Birdi told DNA that the constable was on duty but he was not available at his post. "He decamped with AK 47 riffle and 30 rounds. We are investigating and looking into the matter," he said.

Tariq is the second security force man of Shopian who has deserted the force. On April 16, Sepoy Mir Idrees,of 12th battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI), went missing after leaving his home for joining duty at Safnagari village on Saturday. Later, a picture of him brandishing AK 47 riffle with an inscription of Hizbul Mujahideen went viral.
