After Incredible India snub, Maharashtra govt partners with Aamir Khan's NGO to tackle water crisis

Previously, there were reports that the actor would be the ambassador for Maharashtra's scheme 'Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan' which aimed at making 25,000 villages free of drought in 5 years.

Paani Foundation, a not-for-profit company started by actor Aamir Khan and director Kiran Rao, on Wednesday announced its partnership with the Maharashtra government to solve the water crisis in the state. The project, called ‘Satyamev Jayate Water Cup’,  is aimed at solving the water through a people’s movement. 

Helmed by the foundation’s CEO Satyajit Bhatkal and COO Reena Dutta the projects aims at communicating, imparting knowledge and bringing about a change in outlook about water conservation and watershed management among people at the grass root level.

At a press conference on Wednesday, the foundation announced that the first edition of the Water Cup will be restricted to three districts and within those three districts, in one taluka each. The talukas are Koregaon Taluka, in Satara District of Western Maharashtra,  Warud Taluka, in Amravati District of Vidarbha and Ambajogai Taluka, in Beed District of Marathwada. Within these three talukas, all gram panchayats will be invited to take part.

Previously, there were reports that the actor would be the ambassador for Maharashtra's scheme 'Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan' which aimed at making 25,000 villages free of drought in 5 years. The reports were denied by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.
