After Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is fast-emerging as a brand, politically and otherwise. In Eid Lucknowites savoured ‘Yogi Maharaj Sewai’, and now they are ready to relish ‘Yogi Mango’.

Named after the Chief Minister, ‘Yogi Mango’ is the star attraction at the two-day Mango Festival which was inaugurated on Saturday by Yogi Adityanath at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan in Lucknow.

About 725 different varieties of mangoes from all over the country are on the display at the festival. Mango growers from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh etc have participated in the two-day festival.

The Yogi brand of hybrid Mango was developed by 74-year-old Haji Kalimullah, popularly known as ‘Mango Man’, in his famous nursery-cum-orchard in the mango-belt of Malihabad a year ago. It was after a year that the hybrid variety of the fruit was put on display before entering the market.

“I want best varieties to be developed in Uttar Pradesh so that it becomes number one in the country to export mangoes all over the world. There is a need to brand and market our best varieties. The government has invited entrepreneurs to set-up a mango export hub in Malihabad to help growers export their produce globally with quality control,” Kalimullah said.

Kalimullah claimed that the Yogi Mango is a hybrid variety of Malihabad’s Dussehri Mangoes. “Unlike Dussehri variety, this variety is slender and smaller in size with pinkish and yellow skin when ripe. It is juicier as well,” he said.

Kalimullah added that the Yogi Mango is grown in organic and natural environment and it has better shelf life than Dussehri. “Its taste, colour, size and shelf life make the mango different from others. It is one of the best hybrid varieties I have developed in my nursery,” he added.

Earlier, Kalimullah had developed “Namo Mango’ in 2015 after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. Known in the country for his grafting skills, he has grown over 300 varieties of mangoes in his century-old nursery-orchard so far. Some of them are named after celebrities to make them immortal.
