Brushing aside dissent within the party, BJP declared Kiran Bedi as its Chief Minister candidate for Delhi. This is the first time since Modi has come to power that BJP has decided to project its chief minister candidate for a state before the election.

Announcing  Bedi's candidature, Party president Amit Shah said, "We have different strategies for different states. BJP had contested Rajasthan election projecting Vasundhara Raje as CM and in Madhya  Pradesh Shivraj Chauhan was projected."

Shah had earlier announced that the party will go to polls without declaring its CM candidate as it had done for Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.Announcement of Bedi's candidature comes after the poll panel and parliamentary committee meeting of the party. Bedi will also be leading the poll campaign of BJP in Delhi.

While the Congress is not projecting anybody as its CM candidate, it is going to be an Arvind Kejriwal versus Kiran Bedi election for the seat of Delhi.

Bedi will contest from Krishna Nagar seat in east Delhi which has been vacated by union minister Harshvardhan. Harshvardhan was a three time sitting MLA from the seat, before entering the parliament.

BJP has also broken its another convention of projecting an outsider as its CM face, rejecting the candidature of several senior leaders, eyeing at Delhi's top chair.
