An Afghan national was arrested here today for allegedly sexually harassing an NRI woman and threatening to attack her with acid, the police said.

Abuzar Mohammad Hussain (25), a foreign student at Anand Agriculture University, was arrested by the Anand town police on a complaint filed by an NRI student, who also studied at a college under AAU, said Anand town police Sub Inspector R V Vicchi.

"The complainant said she knew Abuzar since 2014. She met him when they were residing at international hostel of the university. They developed friendship, but the woman started ignoring him and blocked his number after which he started threatening her," Vicchi said.

"Abuzar even sent her an email threatening to harass her so much that she will commit suicide. He also threatened to leak their intimate photographs to the woman's parents and throw acid on her," he said.

A case was registered against him on charges of sexual harrasment, stalking and criminal intimidation, police said.

Vicchi said the Afghanistan embassy will be informed about the arrest.
