Affected farmers under Sumruddhi project to be compensated

Farmers in Sinnar and Igatpuri talukas here who have parted with their lands for the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur 702-km Sumruddhi Expressway project, will be compensated adequately, according to Nashik Collector B Radhakrishna.

Currently, measurement survey work is underway in 10 districts falling under the project.

Farmers and locals of Sinnar, Shahapur taluka in Thane and some other districts in Maharashtra have been holding protests against the project. Last week a group of farmers in Shivade village in Sinnar had held a protest against the measurement exercise.

"The government will take care of the farmers affected by project and they will get proper compensation for their land. They would be provide with alternative land," he told reporters here last evening.

Yesterday, a large number of farmers and locals had gathered at Shahapur in Thane to stage a rasta-roko over the project.
